Want to start off your 2018 on the right foot?
Maybe you said for Lent you wanted to read more books?
Well, look no further – because I’ve put together my top five recommended books that I would consider motivational and inspiring in the areas of marketing and business. These will completely change your mindset and hopefully get you in gear to take action in 2018.
Even though digital technology has completely changed the way we consume content, there is still something about a book that really inspires you to take action. I strongly believe that constantly having ONE book that you’re actively reading at all times will propel you to become more successful and more “on your game” than you would be otherwise.
I’ve carefully curated this list with books I’ve already read (I’ve read 3 of the 5), and books that some of my close business friends have recommended. I’ve ranked them in order, with 1 being my most strongly recommended. But all of these (trust me) will change the game for you. You can click the image or the link and it will take you directly to the Amazon page to purchase.
Here are my five motivational business and marketing books to start off your 2018…
As a follow up to his book “Crush It” in 2009, Gary Vee is back with a vengeance 9 years later. This is the social media and marketing Bible if you want to learn how to take your business to the next level using online marketing. He goes into deep (and practical) depth about using all of the major platforms. He gives examples and stories of people who read his first book, then changed the game for themselves. It really inspires you to take action and helps you do that by giving real life examples that you can almost picture yourself in.
Jeff Haden is Inc.com’s most popular columnist, and in this book, he describes how you can achieve great things by maintaining constant motivation. He goes into depth about how finding motivation isn’t necessarily a “lightning bolt” or one awakening moment, but it’s actually something else (you have to read to find out!). Jeff has 2 million readers per month on Inc.com and he uses his own advice in order to do so. If you’re looking to build a business, improve your life, or simply find motivation, this is THE book for you.
This digital marketing book by Nick Westergaard is all about doing “more with less” which is perfect for the entrepreneur or small business owner. It’s also great for just anybody with a marketing budget – because we all know we like to save money whenever we can! He helps readers create relevant content and push it out to social platforms, as well as finding inspiration and coming up with repeatable systems. This is an absolute gold mine for any marketer or business owner.
Contagious might be one of the best business/marketing books I’ve ever read in my life, and I’m not just saying that. I still, to this day, use things I’ve learned in Contagious because it breaks down principles that you can apply to so many different situations. It’s all about why things become popular and what makes them continue to stay popular. Jonah Berger brilliantly informs you about concepts, then translates them into real life examples and stories. It has helped me become a more effective marketer because I can take things I’m dealing with in a real life situation, and realize what it will take in order for them to “pop” and get bigger.
5. Rise and Grind: Outperform, Outwork, and Outhustle Your Way to a More Successful and Rewarding Life
Daymond John of Shark Tank and previous New York Times best-selling author is back with another classic for business owners, empire builders, and marketers. If you want to take it to the top and outwork everybody, this is the book for you. This book is pure motivation and tactical advice on how to out-work, out-hustle, and out-think your competition. If you read this in the morning before you head out for the day, you’ll be sure to have the right mindset to give your all each and every day. I would buy a ton of copies of this and hand them out to all of my friends if I had the means to do so.
I’ve been making it a consistent point to read every single day in 2018. It continues to build my knowledge in my industry and it also helps grow my mind into thinking different ways and seeing other perspectives, which helps in my day-to-day life. Grab one of these books, give it 15-30 minutes per day, and you will see exactly what I mean.
These people who wrote these books – and I mean every single one of them has seen ridiculous amounts of success in business, marketing, or writing – and I know that’s what a lot of you want to do as well. So they are some of the best examples to use.

Heard my podcast yet?
It’s called Popular Demand and I interview people with influence in the digital space. We talk about business, marketing, social media, and anything else that just happens to come up! For example, so far I’ve interviewed Drake’s blogger and Gary Vaynerchuk’s health coach – so you can see it’s a wide variety.
